Create Plant specific QR Codes for scanning in Prestartr

Exporting your Plant Register

Begin by exporting your current Plant Register to a CSV (Comma separated value).
This file can be used within Excel or Sheets to create your QR Codes.

  1. From the main menu of Prestartr, navigate to the Plant app.
  2. From the Plant app, click Import/Export.
  3. Click Export as Backup.

A file named plant-backup.csv will be downloaded.


Creating QR Codes

With the plant-backup.csv file, use either Excel or Sheets to open the file. 
Other spreadsheet editors may have similar features.

Before we get started…

While Prestartr cannot export QR codes at this time, you can export your Plant register and generate scannable QR Codes in Excel or Sheets. 
This is a no-cost, straightforward solution, using tools you likely already have.

With the plant-backup.csv file open in Excel, locate Column B - Plant ID.

This is the field that will be used to generate your QR Codes. 

  1. Left click on Column B to select the entire column.
  2. Right click on Column B to open the context menu and click Copy.
    1. Alternately, use the keyboard shortcut CTRL + C to copy the highlighted info.
  3. In Excel, click the File menu in the top left corner.
  4. Click Blank workbook.
  5. In the new workbook, right click into the top left most cell, A1.
  6. Click the first Paste option. 
    1. Alternately, use the keyboard shortcut CTRL + V to paste the copied info.
  7. To the right of the newly pasted data, click into the second cell, B2.
  8. Copy and paste the following text into cell B2:
=IMAGE("https://quickchart.io/qr?text=" & ENCODEURL(A2))

Excel Security Notice

Pasting content that uses external websites to interact with your data may be flagged as potentially harmful code. Only select “Paste everything” if you trust the 3rd party service.

 

After pasting the image formula into the cell, it will generate a QR Code image.
Copy the formula to each row of this workbook to create Codes for each Plant.

You can print these QR Codes as needed for your workers to scan on Prestarts.

With the plant-backup.csv file open in Sheets, locate Column B - Plant ID.

This is the field that will be used to generate your QR Codes. 

  1. Left click on Column B to select the entire column.
  2. Right click on Column B to open the context menu and click Copy.
    1. Alternately, use the keyboard shortcut CTRL + C to copy the highlighted info.
  3. In Sheets, click the File menu in the top left corner.
  4. Click New > New Spreadsheet.
  5. In the new spreadsheet, right click into the top left most cell, A1.
  6. Click the first Paste option. 
    1. Alternately, use the keyboard shortcut CTRL + V to paste the copied info.
  7. To the right of the newly pasted data, click into the second cell, B2.
  8. Copy and paste the following text into cell B2:
=IMAGE("https://quickchart.io/qr?text=" & ENCODEURL(A2))

Sheets Security Notice
